The lake runs north to south. It has an island in the center called Moffit Island. There are large weed beds and a big wetland on the south end of the lake. Private homes and cottages line the east shoreline.

Upper Chateaugay Lake has a DEC boat launch off Route 374, five miles north of the Hamlet of Merrill. The launch has a hard surface ramp with parking for 25 cars and trailers. The launch is in the Chateaugay Narrows approximately one mile north of the lake. The Chateaugay Narrows are navigable. Fish Species:Lake trout, landlocked salmon, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, northern pike, rainbow smelt, yellow perch, brown bullhead, pumpkinseed, and rock bass. The lake is managed as a two story fishery. Northern pike are present due to an illegal introduction. They now dominate the fishery and can exceed 15 pounds. Upper Chateaugay lake is stocked with approximately 2700 landlocked salmon and 6300 lake trout annually

Access: Although the lake has a state boat launch the narrows are not safe during the winter. You will want to consult you local fisherman to gain access to the safe and hot spots to the lake.

Set in the valley between Lyon and Ellenburg mountains, Chazy Lake has some very nice views. The lake runs mainly north to south. It has a good fishery and is quite popular.

Access:DEC boat launch with a hard surface ramp is located off Route 374, 5 miles west of the Village of Dannemora. It has parking for 20 cars and trailers. There is also ample access on the pump house road in two different area's.

Fish Species:Lake trout, landlocked salmon, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, northern pike, brown bullhead, yellow perch, rainbow smelt, and pumpkinseed.

Fishing:The lake trout, rainbow trout and landlocked salmon fishing is concentrated in the center of the lake over the deepest water. Spoons and  The northern pike were an illegal introduction. While not very numerous, the pike can attain large sizes.

Fisheries Management:
Chazy Lake is stocked with approximately 7,000-7,400 rainbow trout, 1,000 lake trout, and 200 landlocked salmon.
